Our First Camp White Pine Summer

Twin brothers and Koala campers Benjamin & Jonathan Pike sat down with the Kronickle to talk about their first summer at White Pine.

Why’d you choose Camp White Pine?

BENJAMIN: Our old camp wasn’t as inclusive. You did things by yourself. We liked the idea of doing everything with your cabin and being close with everyone.

JONATHAN: The camp was the right fit for me. It had lots of activities, it had a cabin focus, and I knew lots of people.

What surprised you most about White Pine?

JONATHAN: Once you get there, it’s completely different from what you’d expect. Everyone is really nice, and if you go to an activity that you’ve never been to before, like waterskiing, they really help you and teach you how to do everything… At ski, they taught me pretty much how to waterski because I’ve only done it once before, and they made me a lot better.

What can new White Piners expect when they come to camp for the first time?

BENJAMIN: Everybody trying to make you feel at home.

JONATHAN: They shouldn’t be worried. They should expect to make lots of friends, to love the activities, and to feel very included.

What advice would you give to new Koala campers?

BENJAMIN: I would tell them to be yourself and try and make as many friends as you can.

What’s it like going to camp with your twin brother?

BENJAMIN: If everyone else in your cabin is doing something else, your brother will always go with you. If you need help with something, he’s always there… Or, if you’re feeling sick, he can help you.

JONATHAN: It’s easier to make friends, because if Ben makes one friend then I make one friend… It makes it easier to know people.

What’s your favourite memory from the summer?

BENJAMIN: Probably when I got off the bus, and I saw Taylor Kronick and he was looking for me.

What are you looking forward to most next summer?

BENJAMIN: Probably the All Day. I’ve heard that it’s pretty much the Half Day, but ten times better and twice as long.
