Meet the Kiwi: Stella Segal

The Kronickle talks to Kiwi camper and White Pine aficionado Stella Segal about space travel, the all day, and the value of persistence.

You told us you liked learning about rocket ships. Would you ever consider being an astronaut?

No.

What about supervising a mission in which you sent a monkey to space?

Yes.

What would you name said monkey?

Colin.

I’ll take that as a compliment. Were you nervous your first few days at White Pine?

I was only six years old, so yeah. The first couple of days I missed my parents too much to have fun. After that, I let go so I could have fun.

What’s your favourite camp memory?

The all day [2012]… My favourite part was probably making a song for our team and the apache. I had to dig up a stick from a sandbox.

What have you learned from your time at White Pine?

I learned to never give up.

Sailing I used to be scared of, and I kept on trying and trying and I really like it now. Swimming I thought I was gonna suck, but it ended up being good.

Do you have any advice for someone new to camp?

You should try all the activities before you [decide] you don’t like them. Even if you’re afraid of ropes, you should try the ropes swing.

Great. Thanks for the interview, Stella!

This was an interview? Oh yeah. Mom said you would be interviewing me.
